An Armenian sabotage and reconnaissance group attempted to attack one of the posts of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces located in Fizuli region last night, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry told Trend on May 22.
By virtue of the vigilance, valor and bravery of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces' units, the enemy's attempt was revealed and suppressed.
After a brief shootout, the enemy was forced to retreat, suffering losses.
The Azerbaijani Armed Forces' ensign Asif Mammadov and soldiers Tural Isagov and Mirza Mirzali, who were slightly injured as a result of the shooting, were hospitalized.
The health condition of the soldiers is stable.
The Azerbaijani Armed Forces have taken the full control of the situation in the territory where the sabotage attempt took place.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
