OIC Council of FMs adopts resolutions on Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan

The Foreign Ministers Council of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) adopted a number of resolutions related to Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan, the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan told Trend on June 19.

On June 18-19, Saudi city of Jeddah hosted the 41st Session of the OIC Foreign Ministers Council held under the slogan 'Exploring Areas of Islamic Cooperation."

OIC Secretary General Iyad bin Amin Madani, touching upon the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, expressed his support to Azerbaijan and addressed the member states to support Azerbaijan's just cause in this conflict.

He stressed that the OIC is ready to contribute to the settlement of this conflict in accordance with the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.

Ambassador at Large, Agshin Mehdiyev, who represented Azerbaijan at the session, stressed in his speech that Azerbaijan is in solidarity with Muslim states and interested in strengthening cooperation with the OIC member countries.

He also highlighted the importance of OIC efforts in preventing international terrorism and Islamophobia.

Mehdiyev also provided information on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and expressed gratitude for the continuous support to Azerbaijan's stance.

The declaration adopted at the end of the session, expressed solidarity with Azerbaijan's fair stance in the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The OIC Council of Foreign Ministers adopted resolutions "Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan" and "Insulting and destruction of historical and cultural heritage and religious sites belonging to Islam in Azerbaijani lands occupied by Armenia."

A resolution submitted by the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation, included a separate paragraph devoted to the Justice for Khojaly campaign.

Under this paragraph, the campaign is encouraged by the FMs of the OIC member states, and the member states urge to actively participate and make the necessary efforts for recognition of the Khojaly genocide as a crime against humanity on local and international levels.
