Armenian armed forces violated ceasefire 19 times in different directions on the contact line with Azerbaijan, the Defense Ministry reported.

The Amenian Armed Forces located in the Berkaber village of Armenia's Ijevan region opened fire at the positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces located in the Gizilhajili village of Gazakh region last night.

Furthermore, the Azerbaijani positions took fire from the positions located at the nameless heights and near the villages of Ashagi Seyidahmedli, Ashagi Abdurrahmali, Horadiz of Fizuli region, Yusifjanli, Merzili villages of Aghdam region, Qizil Oba village of Terter region, Kuropatkino village of Khojavend region and Mehdili village of Jabrayil region.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
