Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Thursday that Turkey would extend support to NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen for his success in his new mission, Anadolu news agency reported.
Gul, who received Rasmussen at Cankaya Presidential Palace earlier in the day, wished Rasmussen success in his new mission as NATO Secretary General.
Noting that Turkey considered NATO's new strategic concept very important, Gul said that NATO should be ready and strong against new threats.
Gul and Rasmussen also discussed Afghanistan-Pakistan relations. Gul said that Turkey had exerted efforts about the issue, and would continue to do so.
Rasmussen stressed that Turkey was a very important and essential ally for NATO, adding that Turkey's role was important especially in the aspects of Middle East and Central Asia.
