NATO Secretary General agrees that Georgia's progress must be adequately assessed, Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze said after a meeting with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen at NATO headquarters.

Rasmussen did not make any comments.

"At a meeting with Rasmussen, I stressed that Georgia expects an adequate assessment of its progress," Panjikidze said. "I informed Rasmussen that every step towards integration with the alliance is of great importance for us."

She stressed that Rasmussen agrees with this position and admits that Georgia has achieved a lot during this period.

"Rasmussen congratulated us on the successful election of local self-government bodies and the forthcoming signing of an agreement with the EU," Panjikidze said. "At present, Georgia's progress must be also adequately assessed by NATO member-states."
