There are no problems between Azerbaijan and Switzerland, Swiss President Hans-Rudolf Merz told Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at a joint press-conference with in Bern on Oct. 19, AzerTaj state news agency reported on Tuesday.
"There are no problems between our countries. Friendship exists between our nations. Exactly in this spirit we held our meetings and we intend to develop relations between our countries in the same spirit," he said.
Swiss President said that there are much common features between our countries.
"There are much common features between our countries. First, they are situated at the interfaces between East and West. It is the sphere where different mentalities and languages cross. Both countries fight for independence and stability in political and economic spheres. Taking it into account, we establish close contacts. We began to strengthen these ties after Azerbaijani restoration of its state independence. Azerbaijan as Switzerland does not participate in any military organization or a union. From other side, our countries cooperate in the international organizations, namely, the International Monetary Fund. Azerbaijan is a member of the important group in this organization where Switzerland presides," he said.
Swiss President stressed importance of development of economic relations between our countries.
"We have discussed several issues. We have prevalent relations. We must strengthen and deepen our ties. Development of our economies and economic relations is important for us. For example, we interact in energy. The talks on migration continue," Hans-Rudolf Merz said.
