![]() Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived to Ulyanovsk today. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev met the head of state at the airport, RIA Novosti reported. Both presidents will hold a short round of talks in Ulyanovsk and discuss urgent issues of mutual cooperation, as well as international problems, including the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The presidents will also lay a wreath on a monument to Azerbaijani ex-President Heydar Aliyev in a city square of the same name. As first deputy chairman of the Soviet Council of Ministers, Aliyev headed a state commission to salvage a ship wrecked on the Volga in 1983, as a result of which 176 people were killed. A monument to Heydar Aliyev was erected in Ulyanovsk in July 2008 upon the initiative of the All-Russia Azerbaijani Congress. The town planning board decided to name the square where the monument stands in Aliyev's honor in September 2009. See Also:
