Mehriban Aliyeva: Azerbaijan pays great attention to development of early childhood education (UPDATE)

The first-ever World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education under the motto “Building the Wealth of Nations” has started today in Moscow, AzerTAj state news agency reports.

The first-ever World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education under the motto "Building the Wealth of Nations" has started today in Moscow, AzerTAj state news agency reports.

The main objective of the forum is to take stock of the progress of member states towards achieving the education for all goal.

The conference is attended by First Lady of Azerbaijan, UNESCO and ISESCO goodwill ambassador, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, MP Mehriban Aliyeva.

Speaking at the event, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva thanked UNESCO Secretary General Irina Bokova for the invitation to take part in the event.

"Our conference is the first such a strong international forum devoted to early childhood care and education. The topicality of this theme, to my mind, cannot be overestimated," Aliyeva said

According to UNESCO goodwill ambassador, forum is a real chance to find ways, which will create effective international mechanism for assistance to kids. She pointed out it is needed to combine efforts of international organizations, national governments, financial structures.

Mehriban Aliyeva noted government pays a special attention to pre-school education as the special state program to improve pre-school education system was adopted. She said a network of preparatory groups for preschoolers is expanding at the schools of general education.

She expressed hope that the results of the conference would help solve existing problems and provide an opportunity to learn about innovative ideas and world`s achievements in the field.

Moscow Vice-Mayor Ludmila Shvetsova and Minister of Education and Science Andrey Fursenko read out messages the First Lady of Russia Svetlana Medvedeva and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

A dinner was given in honor of the participants of the conference.

First Lady of Azerbaijan, UNESCO and ISESCO goodwill ambassador, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, MP Mehriban Aliyeva was present at the dinner.
