Azerbaijan not holding campaign against Turkey: Parliament

Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 20 /Trend News, A.Huseynbala/

The leadership of the Azerbaijani Parliament stated that the country is not holding a campaign against Turkey.

"The Azerbaijani government and other official agencies are not interested in the campaign against Turkey. No special campaign is held against Turkey," Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker, Ogtay Asadov said at the meeting on Oct. 20.

"The recent removal of foreign flags, including Turkish, in Baku and other places of Azerbaijan is not related to repairs or any other works", Head of the Public-Political Issues Department of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, Ali Hasanov told media earlier.

The Head of the Department said the lowering of flags was related to the implementation of "Law on use of flags of foreign countries and international organizations in the Republic of Azerbaijan". Hasanov said after adoption of this law, local and central authorities were commissioned to draw list of flags hanged in the places not meeting those requirements.

The First Vice-Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Ziyafat Asgarov also said that there is not any campaign held against Turkey.

"Azerbaijan is not holding any campaign against Turkey. If one accepts lowering of the Turkish flags in the Martyrs' Lane as an insult, then the Azerbaijani flags have also been insulted in Bursa. But we do not accept this case as the policy of the Turkish government," Asgarov added.

The Vice-Speaker, Bahar Muradova noted the Turkish flags were lowered in accordance with the law.

"Our key discontent with Turkey is due to bringing opening of the borders to the agenda without settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Azerbaijan has the law and flags are regulated in accordance with the law," Muradova added.
