Azerbaijan, Baku, July 24 / Trend , J.Babayeva/
Some Azerbaijani and Ukrainian cities have reached a preliminary agreement to establish brotherly ties.
"The Azerbaijani Embassy in Kiev establishes ties between the economically and culturally developed regions of Ukraine and Azerbaijan. Brotherly ties will be established between the capital of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Simferopol and the capital of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Nakhchivan as a result of the work conducted in a short period of time," Azerbaijani Ambassador to Ukraine, Talat Aliyev told Trend over a telephone from Kiev.
Brotherly ties have been established between Azerbaijan's Sumgayit and Ukraine's Cherkassy cities, as well as between the Shamkir and Nikolaev regions and some other cities.
Aliyev said he had already met with the mayor of Simferopol.
"We have discussed this issue during the meeting. After discussing this issue, our step was well accepted, and in this regard, they formally applied to the chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) Vasif Talibov and we, in turn, have sent the document to Azerbaijan," said Aliyev.
The diplomat said the chairman of the NAR Supreme Majlis, Talibov appreciated the significance of this issue.
"Moreover, we are also working to establish fraternal relations between the city of Crimea, Yalta and Azerbaijani Khachmaz city. In this regard, we visited Yalta and met with the mayor of the city. He also accepted our proposal. On this issue, we contacted the head of the Khachmaz Region Administration, Shamsaddin Khanbabayev and made him this proposal. An offer to choice the Khachmaz was received from the presidential administration. I believe this is a correct step, because Yalta has currently turned into the most beautiful resort zone of Ukraine and has a great influx of tourists. The Khachmaz region, in turn, is located on the shores of the Caspian Sea and has a beautiful recreation area. The establishment of brotherly ties between the two regions will have a great impact on the development of tourism in these areas. The Mayor of Yalta had already made an official letter in this regard, and we have submitted it to the presidential administration," Aliyev said.
The ambassador said the work on establishment of brotherly ties will finish in September. "Simultaneously the relevant measures are being taken to establish relations between Kharkov and Ganja," Aliyev said.
Aliyev said they have already met with the mayor of Kharkov.
