Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili does not plan to meet with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev in the UN General Assembly in September, Head of the Information and Media Department of the Georgian Foreign Ministry Iya Makharashvili told Trend in a telephone conversation.
"I can say exactly that reports about a possible meeting of the two presidents do not reflect reality," said Makharashvili. "We do not have diplomatic relations with Russia and President Saakashvili will not meet with President Medvedev."
On Aug. 18, the Georgian media reported that the observers do not rule out the Russian-Georgian negotiations in the UN General Assembly, scheduled for September. The head of the Georgian Security Analysis Center, David Smith said that mediating countries may attempt to organize an audience of Presidents Saakashvili and Medvedev in New York.
The two leaders will participate in the meeting of the UN General Assembly.
Smith said attempts are expected to organize such meetings during the assembly.
