Georgia, Tbilisi, Oct. 7 / Trend , N.Kirtzkhalia/
The Georgian Finance Ministry today via auction will sell a cottage in the Tskneti village (a resort suburb of Tbilisi), owned by ex-Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, the leader of the opposition party Democratic Movement - Unified Georgia, Nino Burjanadze.
An initial price is 11,494,000 lari ($6.7 million).
The Tbilisi City Court has passed the resolution to sell the cottage, previously arrested by the Taxes Service, on Aug. 7.
Earlier, the court ordered Burjanadze pay taxes to the state in the amount of 1,250,000 lari for the property in Tskneti. President Mikheil Saakashvili gave this house to Burjanadze at a symbolic price of one lari (about $0.6) in May 2008. However, later finance supervision agencies were interested in the cottage, and on this case, a trial took place which set the price of the cottage at 12 million lari (about $7 million) and recognized the legitimate demand of the taxes service of the Finance Ministry to pay 1,250,000 lari to the state in the form of tax for the possession of such property.
Burjanadze calculated the cost of the cottage "inflated" and refused to pay an overvalued tax.
In this regard, the taxes service imposed arrest on her villa on Aug. 24, and the court satisfied the appeal of the ministry for permission to sell it on Aug. 27.
