During his two-day visit to Turkmenbashi city, Tajik leader Emomali Rahmon touched upon the situation in Afghanistan, which remains a hotbed of tension for decades, at his meeting with Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov.
"The donor countries and international organizations should pay more attention to financing agriculture and energy, and solving communications issues in Afghanistan," the President added.
On Oct.10, the national Altin Asyr TV channel broadcasted Rahmon's meeting with Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov.
"Ensuring regional security in the Central Asia is unthinkable without long-term peace and stability in neighboring Afghanistan," Rahmon said, adding that the Afghan issues must be resolved primarily through the creation of appropriate infrastructure, economic recovery and development of this country, as well as implementation of joint economic projects.
Turkmenistan connects the stabilization in Afghanistan - a transit country with the possible realization of a gas pipeline to Pakistan and India for supplies of Turkmen gas. Berdimuhammedov noted recently that the project could become a "stabilizing factor" for the Afghan economy, because there will be several thousands of jobs and stable currency earnings.
