Baku to host forum on intercultural dialogue in 2011: minister

In 2011, Baku will host a forum on intercultural dialogue initiated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfaz Garayev said on Oct.13.

The sixth conference of the Islamic countries' culture ministers in Baku which is to end on Oct.15 adopted a communiqué on the development of intercultural dialogue.

According to Garayev, currently development of intercultural dialogue is a priority topic. "We intend to hold this dialogue not only in words, but also in actions. In the future, there can be arranged press monitoring and the journalistic community," the minister said.

Racism and discrimination are important issues of dialogue between the Council of Europe and the Islamic countries. The document signed in Baku will allow to implement a number of important projects, including the development of intercultural education, said Robert Palmer  Director of Culture and Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Council of Europe.

"We should lay pipeline filled not with oil, but warm relations," Palmer added.
