Georgia cannot fully integrate with NATO soon: opposition

Georgia, Tbilisi, Oct. 26 / Trend , N.Kirtzkhalia/

"In the coming years, Georgia's full integration with NATO is impossible," Leader of the opposition party Alliance for Georgia, Irakli Alasania told journalists.

Thus he commented on the statements of the Georgian ministers that Georgia could become a NATO member without passing the stage of "Membership Action Plan" (MAP).

"This is a futile expectation. It will take a lot of time, not a year or two years, will take a lot of work to qualify a candidate for NATO," Alasania said, noting that the actions of the authorities is "meaningless PR".

Alasania recalled that President Mikheil Saakashvili promised the people to bring Georgia into NATO. "Saakashvili's policy and his fateful mistakes, including in August last year (the war in South Ossetia), seriously damaged the process of Georgia's joining NATO," said the politician, who previously represented Georgia at the UN.

At present, theNATO-Georgia commission is active. Georgia carries out an annual program of integration.

Earlier, senior officials of the Georgian government said that the country will be ready to join NATO in 2-3 years.
