Iran to respond on IAEA draft memorandum soon: Iranian foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki

Iran, Tehran, October 26 / Trend T. Jafarov /

Iran will respond concerning a project on IAEA envisaging terms of nuclear fuel supplies for Tehran research reactor soon, Iranian foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki said at a press-conference in Tehran on October 26.

Russia, France and the USA officially approved a package of IAEA proposals on nuclear fuel supplies for Tehran reactor designed in Vienna during three-day-technical talks.

IAEA director general Mohamed ElBaradei hoped that this package can be approved at the nearest session of this organization's board of managers on November 26-27 if all concerned sides agree.

Tehran reactor needs 20-percent uranium, rather than 5 percent one, which Iran has, Mottaki told media on October 26. The Iranian side is ready to give 5-percent uranium instead of 20-percent one. The talks were held in Vienna on this issue. The parties agreed on preparation and signing a special memorandum, minister added.

"We consider the draft memorandum and will respond soon," Mottaki said.

Answering the question on possible purchase of Chinese nuclear fuel by Iran, minister said that if we get such a proposal from official Beijing, the Iranian side will only welcome it.

Mottaki said that Iranian slogan on nuclear issue is the following one worldwide - 'Peaceful atom is for all but nuclear weapon is for nobody'.

Minister expressed satisfaction that world countries take fair positions on Iranian peaceful nuclear program. Unfair conditions have been laid down up to now are removed from the agenda.
