Georgia, Tbilisi, October 29 / Trend , N.Kirtskhalia /
Vice-Speaker of Georgian Parliament from the opposition Levan Vepkhvadze described unintelligible the purpose of the visit of the leader of the Movement for Fair Georgia Zurab Nogaideli to Russia. He told Trend that the visit to Russia and the negotiations with the representatives of local authorities have meaning only if they will focus on important issues for both countries.
Vepkhvadze said that it is de-occupation of Georgia and the refusal to recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
"At a time when representatives of the Russian authorities visit Ecuador and Bolivia, and require them to recognize the independence of Georgia's separatist regions, at a time when in exchange of recognizing, they offer a variety of financial and military assistance those countries, I do not understand what is the meaning of visit to Moscow and talk about good-neighborly relations. It will not work," said Vepkhvadze.
Meanwhile, the representative of non-parliamentary opposition, a member of the Alliance for Georgia Manana Nachkebia positively assesses Nogaideli's visit to Russia. "Certain steps must be taken for the normalization of relations with Russia, and it does not matter if Nogaideli or someone else does it," she said to Trend .
"There is nothing wrong that Nogaideli met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia. Cooperation with governmental circles of Russia within certain framework is necessary and important. The U.S. also dictates it to us. However, we must cooperate with those forces in Russia, which really worried about the fate of Georgia," said Nachkebia.
Regarding Nogaideli's strategy with respect to dialogue with Abkhazia and Ossetia, she said that an alternative to peaceful methods does not exist here. Nachkebia noted that the leader of the alliance Irakli Alasania has the greatest resource in this regard.
It should be noted that the representatives of the authorities and the parliamentary majority categorically refuse to comment on Nogaideli's visit.
