31,728 candidates have already been approved for 1,718 municipalities, the press service of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan told Trend .
Municipal elections in Azerbaijan will be held on December 23. During these elections, 15 682 members will be elected for 1,718 municipalities.
Formerly municipal elections were held twice - in 1999 and 2004.
Of those whose candidatures were approved, 30,840 people received the signature lists in the constituencies. Of them, 24,441 candidates have collected the necessary signatures and submitted these lists and other necessary documents to the relevant constituencies. 18,597 candidates have already been registered for 1,599 municipalities. Of this number, 4,153 are women. 10,072 approved candidates for municipal elections have higher education.
Of the candidates, 9,830 people are independent, others represent 31 political parties. 22 political parties officially joined the election
