Russia cannot interfere in EU satellite monitoring: parliamentary deputy speaker

Georgia, Tbilisi, Nov. 16 / corr. Trend N.Kirtzkhalia

The EU is launching satellite monitoring of Georgia's occupied territories due to Russia's refusal to implement the Medvedev-Sarkozi six-point agreement, Georgian opposition figure and Parliamentary Deputy Speaker Paata Davitaya told journalists.

The EU representatives announced late last week that the occupied territories will be monitored by satellite to fix the movement of military manpower, equipment and construction.

"The EU is frustrated by the arms escalation in the occupied territories," he said. "It is clear that Russia is provoking a new war. I told EU representatives that a war is probable unless control is intensified."

Georgia appealed to the EU to use satellite control over Abkhazia and South Ossetia six months ago.
