Georgian defense minister appraises peacekeepers' return to Afghanistan

Georgia, Tbilisi, Nov. 17 / Trend N.Kirtzkhalia /

Georgian Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaia is sure that Georgian peacekeeping forces will cope successfully with their operations. He wired the statement to the Georgian soldiers who set off today to Kabul.

Soldiers of the Twenty-Third Battalion of the Second Infantry Brigade will participate in the ISAF operation in France's zone of responsibility. The second Georgian contingent will leave for Afghanistan in February and serve in the U.S. zone of responsibility.

"It is very important that Georgia returned to peacekeeping operations after the [August 2008] war and I hope they can cope with their tasks as well as before," Akhalaia said.
