Mutual understanding unites Baku, Prague: Azerbaijani ambassador

"The negotiataions held between the Azerbaijani and Czech delegations in Prague [yesterday] were productive and held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding," Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Czech Republic Tahir Tagizade told Trend today.

"The Czech Republic appreciates Azerbaijan's priorities of strengthening security and restoring stability in the South Caucasus," he said. "The country also fully supports Azerbaijan's efforts in European integration and the development of a comprehensive dialogue within the Eastern Partnership program," he told Trend over the phone from Prague.

Azerbaijan was represented at yesterday's meeting by Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov, and the Czech side by Czech Foreign Ministry Secretary General Milan Sedlachek, the ambassador said. He added that a wide range of issues were discussed.

These issues include:

- Extending strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic;

- Developing political cooperation within bilateral and multilateral initiatives;

- Developing cultural, educational and economical exchanges;

- Enhancing joint activities after opening the Czech Embassy in Baku in early December;

- Cooperating in the defense sphere;

- Forming a bilateral inter-governmental commission which is ensured by an agreement on economic, scientific and technical and cultural cooperation recently signed in Baku by Czech Ambassador to Azerbaijan Radek Matula and Azerbaijan's economic development minister.
