Organizing of the summit of heads of the 3 countries is being considered. At present, the date of the summit and its agenda are being coordinated, Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov told media today.
"As it is known, the first meeting on security in the Caspian Sea was held in Baku. Now we plan to continue these discussions in early 2010, including Baku. Five-sided meetings continue to be held. The work over the Convention on the legal status of the sea is being held," Khalafov said.
Deputy Minister said that the talks with Turkmenistan on the rapprochement of the parties continue. "We try to solve the issue at the bilateral level," Khalafov said.
Coastal States signed the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea in November 2003.
The agreement on the delimitation of the northern part of the Caspian Sea was signed between Kazakhstan and Russia in July 1998 to implement sovereign rights for subsoil. But the Protocol to the Agreement was signed in May 2002.
The agreement between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan on the delimitation of the Caspian seabed and the appropriate protocol were signed on November 29, 2001 and February 27, 2003 accordingly.
The agreement on the junction point of the delimitation of adjacent sections of the Caspian Sea was signed between Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia on May 14, 2003.
