Adopting law on combating disease caused by human immunodeficiency virus is very important: Azerbaijani MP

Azerbaijan, Baku, December 26 / Trend , A.Huseynbala /

Adopting the draft law on combating disease caused by human immunodeficiency virus is very important, member of the Azerbaijani Parliament said. "This problem causes concerns in Azerbaijan. The growth rate of the virus after the first infection also concerns all of us," MP Ganira Pashayeva said at the meeting of the Parliament on Dec. 26.

According to Pashayeva, the main issue must be to identify the carriers of HIV. "If to look at the statistics, it becomes clear that 63.3 percent of HIV carriers were infected through injection of drug. The official statistics also highlighted that the number of addicts do not correspond with the number of registered addicts. If the number of addicts is much greater, the risk group is also high," Pashayeva said.

According to the MP, the involvement of drug users to the registration process should be accelerated after the adoption of this law. "Serious attention also should be paid to the enlightenment. The television and radio play a great role in the enlightenment," she said.

According to Pashayeva, providing only 20 minutes per month to the Public and State televisions for enlightenment is very little. "I think that this time should be at least 90 minutes, and private channels should also be involved in enlightenment," she said.

The law was adopted in the first reading at the Parliament session on Dec. 25.
