Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a decree appointing Abdulaziz Kamilov as first deputy foreign minister.
The post has been vacant since early December 2009 since the appointment of former First Deputy Minister Hamidullah Karamatov as Uzbek ambassador to Japan.
Kamilov was born in 1947. Until 1991, Kamilov worked at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. He began working at the Uzbek Foreign Ministry and headed the agency in 1994. Kamilov was Uzbek ambassador to the U.S. from October 2003 to January 2010.
