Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 28 / Trend T.Chigniyev /

Azerbaijani MPs Ganira Pashayeva and Zahid Oruj participated in a popular U.S. television program devoted to Azerbaijan.

During the two-hour television program, the deputies spoke about Azerbaijan's history, Armenia's historical colonization in the country and establishment of the Armenian state on the Azerbaijani territory.

They told the audience about the exile of 100,000 Azerbaijanis from Armenia in 1948-53, Armenia's occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, the genocide against Azerbaijanis in Khojali, the destruction of historical monuments in the occupied Azerbaijani territories and  one million Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs who cannot return to their homes for over 15 years.

The program showed films about Azerbaijan prepared by Heydar Aliyev's Fund in English.

The officials told the public that Azerbaijan is a country with a high level of tolerance, and spoke about strategic regional energy projects that are important for the U.S. Also, Azerbaijan's role in the fight against international terrorism was discussed.

Pashayeva and Oruj noted that the Armenian diaspora holds anti-Azerbaijani campaigns in the U.S. and other countries that try to hide crime perpetrated by Armenia.

Regarding Section 907 adopted by the U.S. Congress on the initiative of the Armenian lobby and pro-Armenian congressmen, and the allocation of funds to the Armenian separatist regime of Nagorno-Karabakh, the MPs said that the Azerbaijani people expect these decisions to be repealed in the near future, as they not only adversely affect the strategic relations between the two countries, but also raise doubts about the U.S. position as co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group.

In the run up to the anniversary of the genocide in Khojaly, Azerbaijani MPs called on the U.S.to assist in bringing the perpetrators of this tragedy to justice.

In the course of the program, they also exchanged views on the Azerbaijani-U.S cooperation in various fields, as well as on the processes in the South Caucasus.

The host of the program noted the need to provide the U.S. public with accurate information about Azerbaijan and the country's role in the region and world processes. The MPs called on Americans to visit Azerbaijan, whose beauty can not leave them indifferent.
