Turkish FM: 2010 to be Turkey's and Kazakhstan's year

Kazakhstan, Astana, Feb.11 / Trend , K. Konyrova /

The year 2010 will be important for Turkey and Kazakhstan, as the countries lead two respected international organizations, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said at a briefing in Astana.

This is Turkey's and Kazakhstan's year, as the countries are leading the CICA and the OSCE. They are therefore responsible for ensuring security throughout the Eurasian space.

"We will continue cooperation within these two organizations. Turkey will always provide assistance to Kazakhstan for its presidency in the OSCE," said Davutoglu.

The minister noted that although Turkey and Kazakhstan do not common borders, they have close cooperation based on the Treaty on Strategic Partnership.

"We decided to meet twice a year in order to contribute to further strengthening of cooperation and execution of agreements reached at the highest level", he said.

Davutoglu offered to double the number of meetings between the ministries in a year.

In his turn, Secretary of State, Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev stressed that agreements and understanding exists in all directions of cooperation between the two countries.

"We also discussed our cooperation in the international arena, especially on Kazakhstan's presidency in the OSCE. And, we passed the baton of presidency in the CICA to Turkey," Saudabayev said.

As a result of the meeting, the sides signed two documents - the memorandum of intentions between the Kazakh Emergency Situations Ministry and Turkey's General Directorate for Emergency Situations Management and the memorandum of understanding between the Kazakh Statistics Agency and Turkey's Statistics Institute.
