Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 13 / Trend A. Huseynbala /
The possibilities of joint participation of the Azerbaijani opposition in the parliamentary elections have not been exhausted yet, the chairman of the Azerbaijani party said.
"Various proposals on the participation of the opposition in the parliamentary elections with a single list of candidates have been made. We continue to hold meetings in that direction," Umid party chairman, MP Iqbal Aghazadeh told Trend on Saturday.
The parliamentary elections will be held in Azerbaijan in autumn this year. The previous elections were held in November 2005. In Azerbaijan, the parliamentary elections are held by the majority system in 125 electoral districts.
Despite ongoing discussions, it is hard to determine exactly what opposition parties will agree to jointly participate in the elections. "We are trying to become a central force and looking for ways to achieve this", Aghazadeh said.
The position of the Musavat Party in connection with the parliamentary elections differs from that of other opposition parties. Regarding the question of creating the unity without the participation of the party, deputy spoke about discussion of all possible options. "However, the result will be achieved over time. Our joint participation in the elections depends on each of us. No force has influence in this issue," Aghazadeh said.
He said the statement in the parliamentary elections with a single position meets the interest of not only the opposition but also the entire society. "Uncertainty within the parties' activity is the major barrier to our unity. Each party has its views on the issue of unity", the chairman of the party said.
At this stage, discussions of a single list of candidates for MPs is not rather important. "First and foremost, united actions in this direction and the global consensus are important. Then one can start discussions on the issue of a single list," the deputy said.
The opposition party Umid was established in 1993. In 2002, the Civil Solidarity Party has joined the party Umid. The Civil Solidarity Party Chairman Iqbal Aghazadeh was elected chairman of the party Umid. Aghazadeh is a deputy of the Azerbaijani Parliament.
