Tajikistan's Islamic Renaissance Party (IRP) leader Muhiddin Kabiri believes that there is no objective reason for disagreement among Central Asian countries.
"The problem is that the Rogun hydropower plant project is too politicized not only in Tajikistan but also in the whole region," Kabiri said in an interview to Echo of the Planet magazine.
According to him, the issue should be approached pragmatically, said Kabiri, adding that that Tajikistan needs electricity.
"Until the Rogun hydropower plant is not built and put into operation, we will not able to solve the problems that the country is facing. We should bring our position to the world community and defend it without politicizing the issue and without linking it to other problems," Kabiri said.
According to him, subjective reasons play a bigger role than economic and state relations for Central Asian countries in the current dispute.
"Unfortunately, ordinary people and entire nations suffer from these subjective factors and leaders of Central Asian countries cannot perceive each other as partners, as good neighbors," said Kabiri.
