Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 18 / Trend E.Ostapenko/
The European Union and Russia share common goals and interests, which should be taken as basis, despite disagreement on some issues, including the diversification of energy supplies in the EU, said Roland Kobia, EU ambassador in Azerbaijan.
"We need to focus on what unites and what can contribute to coordinated work," he said at the debates at the Center for Strategic Studies under Azerbaijani President.
The EU actively works over plans of constructing new pipelines from the Caspian region, which will allow Europe to partially reduce its dependence on gas imports from Russia. Especially, the construction of the Nabucco gas pipeline is actively being discussed, which maximum output capacity will be 31 billion cubic meters for year.
EU appreciates Russia as an important strategic partner. "We are neighbors and we cannot escape from that," Kobia said.
