An Azerbaijani MP believes that the term for crimes committed with firearms should be increased.
"I will raise a question on increasing the term of serious crimes for preventing murders committed with firearms and also rape cases. I think punishment terms for crimes committed with firearms should be increased up to 30 years at least," Unified Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (UAPFP) Chairman and MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev told journalists today.
According to him, his proposal is based on international experience.
Hasanguliyev thinks that in many countries, especially in the United States, long-term punishment is used for similar crimes.
"So, I don't see any problem in increasing the punishment term. In many countries with the increase of such crimes, punishments also toughen. Naturally, conditions and reasons which cause these crimes to increase are seriously studied. At present, it is necessary to investigate causes of crimes committed in the army and strengthen the discipline," Hasanguliyev stressed.
