Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev has today received Miguel Angel Moratinos, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain which currently holds the European Union`s rotating presidency, AzerTAj state news agency reported
Moratinos said relations with Azerbaijan are "a priority issue" in the European Union`s foreign policy during Spain`s chairmanship.
He said the EU had strong relationship with Azerbaijan, adding "it is bigger than just the bilateral relations and it already acquired strategic importance".
Moratinos also touched upon the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Spain, saying his country was keen to "expand our ties".
President Ilham Aliyev praised the Azerbaijan-EU relations, describing them as "quiet dynamic".
"My visit to Brussels and the EU commissioners` trips to Azerbaijan contributed to strengthening our cooperation."
The President said he believed the Eastern Partnership Program would open new opportunities "from the point of view of cooperation, integration and relationship".
President Ilham Aliyev expressed Azerbaijan`s readiness to develop "constructive cooperation with the European Union in all directions and on the basis of mutual interests".
President Ilham Aliyev and Miguel Angel Moratinos also discussed settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
