Azerbaijan opposition union to launch discussions on joint mass actions

The Union for Democracy which represents several opposition parties of Azerbaijan, invited other opposition parties together hold mass protest.

"This week, the union will meet with Musavat party and the Azadlyg bloc in connection with the joint actions," Chairman of the Azadlig Party represented in the union, Ahmad Oruj said.

Oruj said the meeting will discuss changes and amendments to the Electoral Code, as well as the opposition's proposals on the re-formation of electoral commissions. "This week we will conclude the discussion about the definition of candidates from the Union for Democracy and Musavat party," he said.

The union and Musavat Party have "no serious disagreement about the candidates, he added.

"Each side is ready to make concessions for the nomination of more promising candidates," Oruj said.

Apr.21, the Classical Popular Front Party's headquarter will host the 12th  Karabakh forum upon the union's initiative.

Early last week, the Union for Democracy proposed to hold a joint protest rallies.

The Union for Democracy was created after the parliamentary elections by the opposition parties of the Classic Popular Front Party, Azadliq and National Democracy in 2005. In early September 2008 Great Party of Azerbaijan joined the Union, and in November - People's Party. The Union is the organ of cooperation and the meeting of these parties. In October 2009, the National Democratic Party was excluded from the union, following it the Party of National Salvation joined the union.
