Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze met EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule this week during a visit to Brussels.
The officials discussed the importance of a recently signed Georgia-EU agreement simplifying the visa regime and referred to the agreement's signing date - June 17 - as a historical moment.
Fule also praised the local elections in Georgia May 30 and noted that the country has made substantial progress in approaching international standards.
The sides also stressed the importance of Georgia's integration into EU and discussed Georgia-EU relations, and the possible signing of agreements to facilitate free trade.
The parties also stressed the importance of Georgia's active participation in the Eastern Partnership, as well as the EU's role in maintaining security and stability in Georgia.
