Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov signed a decree pardoning prisoners in honor of the sacred Muslim holiday - Omnipotence Night (Gadyr Gijesi).
The decree will pardon 3,999 people sentenced to imprisonment, including foreign nationals, who committed crimes in Turkmenistan.
The document directed to pardon and release the prisoners from further serving the principal punishment, as well as from an additional punishment in the form of imposing the duty of accommodation in some areas.
"Many prisoners will be pardoned on the eve of the omnipotence Omnipotence Night. They will have the opportunity to return to normal life and expiate their fault," Berdimuhammedov said at the last government meeting.
Gadyr Gijesi falls on the night of Sept. 6.
