Former Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga met with the Azerbaijani parliament yesterday to support the campaign "Let's End Human Trafficking," which is sponsored by the Azercell mobile operator. Vike-Freiberga discussed the perils of human trafficking with the Parliamentary Commission on Building a Europe For and With Children.

MP Gular Ahmadova, who runs the commission, spoke about its activities to combat human trafficking and also the severe consequences of the Karabakh war. She stressed that the commission operates under the leadership of First Lady, MP Mehriban Aliyeva.

Meanwhile, MP Ganira Pashayeva expressed her deepest gratitude to Vike-Freiberga as a "friend of Azerbaijan." Pashayeva noted of the 2.5 million refugees in Europe, roughly 1 million are Azerbaijani. She added that the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on releasing Nagorno Karabakh and the surrounding regions have not yet been fulfilled.
