The working group of the Caspian littoral countries will meet in Baku in late January - early February, the deputy foreign minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov told Trend on Sunday.
"The working group will focus on two topics - to devise the mechanism to impose a ban on sturgeon fishing and to coordinate national and sovereign zones in the limit of 24-25 miles," Khalafov said.
The deputy minister also said that the next summit of the Caspian states will be held in Russia.
"Russia will determine and coordinate the date with the Caspian states," he said.
The recent summit of Caspian states was conducted in Baku on Nov. 18.
In November 2003, the Caspian countries signed the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea.
In July 1998, Russia and Kazakhstan signed an agreement on the delimitation of the northern part of the Caspian Sea in order to exercise sovereign rights for subsoil use.
On Nov. 29, 2001 and Feb.2 7, 2003, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan signed an agreement on the delimitation of the Caspian Sea.
Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia signed an agreement on the delimitation of adjacent sections of the Caspian Sea on May 14, 2003.
