Nine candidates remained for participation in the presidential elections in Kazakhstan, which will be held on April 3, Central Election Commission (CEC) Head Kuandyk Turgankulov said on Wednesday.

"Pensioner Zaure Masina withdrew her candidacy. Thus, nine candidates remained for participation in the presidential elections," Turgankulov said at a regular meeting of the CEC.

The list of candidates includes Amantai kazhi Asylbek, who failed to appear to pass the exam on the state language.

CEC Secretary Bakhyt Meldeshev said the CEC rejected to register unemployed Kanat Eszhanov, who did not pass the exam, as a candidate to participate in presidential elections.

Meldeshev said the linguistic Commission reported that Eszhanov does not speak fluent Kazakh language.

Nomination of candidates for the presidential election will end on Feb.20
