Kazakh Parliamentary Speaker Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev was dismissed due to his appointment as the general director of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG).

President Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed Tokayev's dismissal in connection with his transfer to another position and MPs supported the president.

Tokayev was appointed to the UNOG in March.

Taking into account Kazakhstan's significant contribution to the enhancement of international security, nuclear non-proliferation and socioeconomic development, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon decided to appoint Tokayev, who become the first Asian to serve in the capacity.

Tokayev will also act as the secretary general of the UN Conference on Disarmament.
Ex-Kazakh Procurator General Kairat Mami was elected new Kazakh Parliamentary Speaker.

Mami was born in the Zhambyl district of Alma-Ata region on May 9, 1954. He graduated from the Kazakh State University. Earlier, he served as the deputy justice minister, deputy presidential administration head and Supreme Court chairman. He is married and has three children.
