The NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen discussed Georgia's membership in the Alliance. He stressed that Georgia remains a point of cleavage between NATO and Russia.

"There is a certain disagreement between us and Russia, and Georgia is one of those issues. We recognize Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, and do not recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia," Rasmussen said. "We call on Russia to fulfill its international obligations," he added.

He also stressed that NATO has quite intensive dialogues with Russia, though the country is skeptical about the Alliance's open door policy.

"Moscow believes that NATO's eastward expansion threatens Russia's security. We do not agree with this opinion. On the contrary, when we admitted several Eastern and Central European countries to the Alliance, we saw that it would help create a stable environment and a move forward," Rasmussen said.
