Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's decree on "Pardon of a number of convicted people" on May 26, 2011 has been approved by international organizations. It has been considered as an important step toward ensuring freedom of speech and freedom of information in accordance with the course of Azerbaijan's democratic development.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's decree on "Pardon of a number of convicted people" on May 26, 2011 has been approved by international organizations. It has been considered as an important step toward ensuring freedom of speech and freedom of information in accordance with the course of Azerbaijan's democratic development.

The letter sent to President Aliyev by the director of the prestigious International Press Institute Alison Bethel McKenzie, headquartered in Vienna, stressed that the Azerbaijani President's voluntary action satisfied the International Press Institute, as well as many other organizations. This action deserves approving, the letter said.

Alison Bethel McKenzie stressed that the International Press Institute will continue cooperating with the Azerbaijani government in the sphere of developing freedom of speech and freedom of information.
