The Human Rights Dialogue between the Turkmenistan and the European Union took place for the fourth time in Brussels, the EU reported.

The Human Rights Dialogue between the Turkmenistan and the European Union took place for the fourth time in Brussels, the EU reported.

The dialogue was held in an open atmosphere, with an exchange on a wide range of issues of mutual interest or concern, as well as discussions on possibilities for concrete cooperation in the field of human rights.

During the meeting the parties took note of steps taken by Turkmenistan in the field of
legislation, the penitentiary system and the protection of rights and freedoms of citizens.

Turkmenistan also highlighted implementation of the new Criminal Procedure Code.

National institutions for the protection of human rights, civil society development, freedom
of association, freedom of expression, freedom of movement and the rights of national
minorities and cooperation in international organizations in the field of human rights (UN,
OSCE) was likewise discussed.

The next round of the Human Rights dialogue should take place in 2012 in Ashgabat.
