Panama is interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan in the energy sector. The country's officials have expressed this interest at a meeting with Azerbaijani Ambassador to this country (with residence in Mexico) Ilgar Mukhtarov, the embassy told Trend on Friday.
Azerbaijani ambassador during his working visit to Panama presented his credentials to the country's President Ricardo Martinelli, met with ministers of foreign affairs and energy, Roberto Enrique and Juan Manuel Urriola.
Mukhtarov informed Panama's officials about the history of Azerbaijan's statehood, the energy sector development and economic potential, as well as business climate in Azerbaijan.
He also gave detained information on the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan, the negotiation process over the resolution of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in a wide range, as well as prospects of enhancing political ties.
At a meeting with the energy minister the parties discussed energy policy of Azerbaijan, its geopolitical situation in the region, large-scale energy projects implemented in Azerbaijan, as well as the possibility of cooperation in this field.
Azerbaijani diplomat also met with a working group of senior officials of Panama's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and discussed possibilities of development of bilateral cooperation, strengthening of legal framework and mechanisms for political consultation between the countries.
Mukhtarov also met with the leadership of the Diplomatic Academy of Panama and at the meeting discussed scholarship projects undertaken by the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy for foreign diplomats.
