A humanitarian aid convoy of 25 vehicles was sent on Monday by the Azerbaijan's Emergencies ministry to the earthquake-hit region of Iran, the ministry reported.

Humanitarian aid was sent on the instruction of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The convoy is carrying 3000 blankets, one thousand bedding sets, 460 tents, flour, rice, tea, sugar, oil, pasta, fruit juices, water and other necessary food items.

Two quakes struck within 11 minutes of each other on Saturday, according to the US Geological Survey, and officials said the towns of Ahar and Varzaqan were the worst hit.

The death toll from the earthquake has reached 300 people, about 2,500 were injured, ISNA news agency quoted the Head of Iranian Red Crescent Society Mahmud Muzaffar.
