Uzbekistan, UK intend to intensify cooperation

Representatives of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry and British Ambassador George Edgar discussed promising areas of bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting the mutual interest was expressed a mutual interest in giving the complex nature to the Uzbek-British dialogue, the Foreign Ministry said.

In particular, there was a mutual interest in developing cooperation in the spheres of politics and security, deepening ties in trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian fields.

Edgar appointed Ambassador of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Uzbekistan in May of this year and handed over a copy of his credentials, addressed to the President, to the leadership of the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.

Edgar previously worked at the British Embassy in Russia, the High Commission in Lagos (Nigeria), and Ambassador to Cambodia and Macedonia, Consul General in St. Petersburg.

Edgar has replaced Rupert Joy, appointed to this position in 2009 and completed the mission in Uzbekistan in late July.

Britain is one of the most important economic partners of Uzbekistan in Europe. Some 419 companies with the participation of British capital are successfully operating in Uzbekistan, 95 companies are accredited.
