Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev left for Brussels to attend a meeting of defense ministers of NATO member and partner countries, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.
The cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO was laid on May 4, 1994, after the signing the framework document, Partnership for Peace.
In April 1996, an official document was signed within the Partnership for Peace Programme, identifying specific areas of cooperation between countries of the alliance. Currently, in accordance with this programme, Azerbaijan implements about 50 partner tasks.
On Aug. 3, 2005, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the approval of the Individual Partnership Action Plan between Azerbaijan and NATO.
Now the cooperation is extended to the second phase of the plan.
