Talks with Russia on trade not contrary to EU - Georgia relations

Georgia, Tbilisi, Oct 18 /Trend N.Kirtzkhalia/

Negotiations between the EU and Georgia on a free and comprehensive trade continue in accordance with the political calendar, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule said at the press conference in Tbilisi.

He noted that a meeting of the Committee on this issue will be held with the participation of Georgia in Brussels on Friday, and the plenary session on association issues will be held next week.

"We emphasize the need for continuous process of preparing the documents for signature. There is no reason for delay, as the new government is clearly defined with regard to the EU integration," Fule said.

He added that Georgia's intention to hold talks with Russia on the restoration of trade relations only contributes to the settlement and stabilization of Georgian-Russian relations.

"It is a positive step, and it does not contradict the Georgia-EU negotiations," Fule stressed.
