Head of Turkish intelligence is in Egypt to monitor the situation in the Gaza Strip, TRT Haber TV channel quotes Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying on Wednesday.

Erdogan said that HAMAS is ready for a truce, but there is no response from the Israeli side yet. Negotiations between the parties are held thanks to Egypt, Erdogan said.

Israel's military operation in Gaza has lasted for a week and confined itself to remote attacks.

However Israeli officials state an unwillingness to bring troops into the enclave, if other means of the conflict's resolution does not work.

Israeli attacks have killed more than 140 Palestinians, most of whom are civilians.

On Tuesday, HAMAS representatives announced that the truce in the enclave will come into force on the Wednesday night, but Israel continues to insist on international guarantees of halting rocket fire and smuggling weapons into the enclave.
