U.S ambassador: Most human trafficking victims involved in forced labour

According to the International Labour Organisation’s information, as of 2012, around 21 million people in the world are victims of forced labour and sexual exploitation, of which about two million people fall to the countries of Eastern and Western Europe and the CIS, U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar said at an international conference on strengthening cooperation in combating human trafficking and forced labour in Baku today.

According to the International Labour Organisation's information, as of 2012, around 21 million people in the world are victims of forced labour and sexual exploitation, of which about two million people fall to the countries of Eastern and Western Europe and the CIS, U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar said at an international conference on strengthening cooperation in combating human trafficking and forced labour in Baku today.

According to the UN, most victims of human trafficking in the world have been involved in forced labour, the ambassador said.

Morningstar said that there are 14.2 million victims of forced labour, or three times more than the figure on forced sexual exploitation. The ambassador called human trafficking a form of slavery.

During the year, human trafficking in the world was worth profits of $32 million which are used to finance international terrorism.
