Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 4 / Trend A. Taghiyeva /

Several Saudi Arabia's senior officials are expected to visit Azerbaijan in the coming months, Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Fahd Bin Ali Al-Dosari said in an interview with Trend on the eve of concluding his diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan.

He said that two visits of Saudi Arabia's high-ranking officials are expected to be paid in March. A delegation of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Civil Defence will visit Azerbaijan. Head of Saudi Arabia's Frontier Corps will pay a visit in March. He will meet with head of the Azerbaijani Border Service Elchin Guliyev.

Head of General Audit Office under Saudi Arabia's government Osama Jaffer Faquih will visit Azerbaijan in April, ambassador said.

Concerning the level of relations between Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia, the ambassador said that relations between the countries are fraternal and based on friendship and mutual understanding.

"Our countries have close cooperation in various fields," he said. "Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia are members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Both countries are doing their best to further strengthen relations. Of course, development of relations between our countries is the result of the wishes of President Aliyev's and King Abdullah."

The diplomat highlighted the cooperation of countries in the field of culture and education. He stressed that Saudi Arabia supports Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.

"This is Saudi Arabia's official position which will never change," he said.

"The Kingdom supports all international resolutions adopted on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," he said. "Saudi Arabia will continue supporting Azerbaijan's position in this conflict."

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France and the U.S. - are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
