The President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, paid tribute to the national leader of the Azerbaijani people and architect and creator of the modern Azerbaijani state Heydar Aliyev at the Alley of Honour and laid a wreath at his grave on Friday.
The honoured guest also paid tribute to outstanding scientist and ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva and laid flowers at her grave.
President and members of the Serbian delegation also visited the Alley of Martyrs and commemorated heroic sons of Azerbaijan, who sacrificed their lives for the sake of independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
President Nikolic then laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument. A military orchestra played the national anthems of Serbia and Azerbaijan.
The honoured guest was brought up-to-date with the history of the Alley of Martyrs and improvement work being conducted in the capital.
